We run the most recent IBM servers for development and quality assurance of Next^® for IBM i. Our partnership with IBM gives us access to a multitude of releases in order to secure maximum compatibility with the environments found at our clients.

Next^® 1.0 for IBM i is outdated

The technology behind the old Next^®1.0, is showing clear signs of aging, which leads to potential challenges. Next^® 1.0 for IBM i requires Java 7 to run, and IBM does not support Java 7 on IBM i after version 7.3. It has single sign on based on NTLM, and today only Kerberos is considered secure. It uses an outdated built-in webserver; Jetti, and has a SOAP based API framework that is now unsupported. Just to name a few.

We urge existing customers to upgrade to Next^® 2.0 for IBM i, immediately. With an active service plan, the software is for free, Or, if it suits your strategy better, migrate to Next^® on Windows or Next^® in the Cloud.
